To medical professionals: can you re-infect yourself with stomach flu if you don't disinfect infected areas?

This is to any medical professionals (i.e. doctors, nurses, DO's, etc). I know this is an out of the ordinary question, but I just got to wondering about it today! LOL Have you ever heard of someone re-infecting themselves subsequently with gastroenteritis/dysentery by not cleaning any areas infected with bacteria, like the toilet, sink, etc?
