My PC won't read my card reader?

I'm pisssed. I have a Digital Concepts 6 slots hi sped 52 in 1 card reader and a compaq pc and when I insert it, the computer doesn't detect it. But I'm putting it in the right slot and it's worked before. But when I insert it sometimes it will make a noise but still doesn't respond. How do I resolve this?
